Welcome to my Company website
I am Nick Birch, Founder and Managing Director of Exigia Ltd.dMy IT journey began in a clearing bank, where I decided that computer systems were more interesting than being a traditional bank manager and was fortunate enough to be able to switch into the IT stream.
After undertaking a variety of roles, eventually left the Bank as a systems development manager leading an office automation team and joined the NHS. There, I spent a fascinating 22 years working in senior management for and on behalf of many and varied NHS organisations including Health Authorities, acute hospital trusts and PCTs. I ended my career as a director at Sussex Health Informatics.
My career roles have given me substantial experience in a variety of disciplines including information management, programme management, procurement and website design. However, at the Bank and right through my NHS career, I have always found myself heading up (and sorting out) data protection and information governance issues.

Perhaps inevitably, my final NHS position at Sussex HIS -Director of Information Security – included the additional roles of Data Protection Officer (DPO) and Senior Information Risk Owner (SIRO). On leaving the NHS, I set up Exigia Ltd to pursue these interests. In addition to providing consultancy services, training and compliance advice, Exigia acts as Data Protection Officer for several organisations, including charities.
Like many professionals nowadays, I work remotely most of the time. Naturally technology makes this easier, whilst reducing costs, helping the environment and improving work / life balance. My wife, a long-term NHS Manager in a related field, also has a hand in the company and together we maintain an open plan home office, with a secure ‘Chinese wall’ between us.
I value long term relationships with my clients over one-off assignments and, once engaged, always aim to become a valued member of ‘the team’. So if you become a client, as I hope you will, I look forward to working with you and your team.
