Data Security & Protection Toolkit

The DS&P Toolkit is an online NHS self-assessment assurance tool that allows organisations to measure their performance against the National Data Guardian’s 10 data security standards. All organisations with access to NHS patient data and systems must use this toolkit to provide assurance that they are practising good data security and that personal information is handled correctly.

In total, over 27,500 organisations are registered to complete the DS&P Toolkit.  That includes all hospital trusts, clinical commissioning groups and other parts of the world's largest healthcare organisation.  Outside the NHS itself, registered organisations include general, dental and optometric practices, pharmacies and many other bodies that provide services to the NHS or work with it.  These organisations are typically sharing patient data with the NHS, processing it for them, or both and are required to submit at least one annual update of the Toolkit to show that they remain compliant.

Exigia staff have worked with every version of the Toolkit, including its predecessor the Information Governance Toolkit, since 2003.  They can work with you to shape your policies and processes and will and guide you through the whole process from registration to making your submissions.

How can we help?

We can manage the whole submission process or just take on specific parts that your organisation needs assistance with.
